Secure dentures by fixing them to implants in your jaw
You can secure full dentures to implants and no longer have loose dentures.
The retention and stability of full dentures depends on many factors. Full upper dentures generally are well received, but lower full dentures often lack stability and retention, and this can be a serious problem. This mainly occurs when the lower ridge has resorbed (shrunk), becoming to a greater or lesser degree flat. In these circumstances, and if there is sufficient bone present to allow placement, a transformative solution is the provision of implants to retain the denture. It is critical that the bone structure is substantial enough to allow implant placement and this may require a CT scan.
The procedure involves placing implants - which are small titanium posts - into your jaw bones which then over a period of 3 to 6 months become integrated into the surrounding bone structure. After this period of bone integration attachments are placed on the underlying implants which protrude above the gum line. These protruding attachments fit into matching attachments in the denture which then snaps into place resulting in a securely retained denture.
